Human Resources Manager: Palmer, Alaska

TerraSond, a precision geospatial solutions provider, is seeking a Human Resources Manager to work out of its Palmer, Alaska corporate office. The Human Resources Manager develops, enhances and drives key HR programs, processes, and practices on a company wide basis, aligning HR with the company’s overall business objectives and building accountability within the organization. Areas of responsibility include recruiting, performance management, employee relations, compliance, and compensation and benefits. Responsible for staffing four offices in three states (Alaska, Texas and Washington), successfully sourcing, screening, interviewing and selecting for highly specialized technical positions.

 

This position is a full time position based in Palmer, Alaska. No relocation assistance is available.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct full cycle recruiting including reviewing job descriptions, interfacing with hiring, sourcing and screening applicants, interviewing, reference checking, documenting recruiting efforts, and drafting offer letters.

 

  • Develop and maintain library of job descriptions, ensuring descriptions accurately reflect essential job duties.

 

  • Develop, recommend and implement new HR initiatives, procedures, training materials and documentation

 

  • Update employee handbooks, policies, procedures, practices, and employee documents

 

  • Advise management on organizational policy matters such as equal employment opportunity, sexual harassment, reasonable accommodation, FLSA, compensation, and other regulatory requirements.

 

  • Administer the performance management program

 

  • Administer benefits, interfacing with vendors and overseeing open enrollment

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Extensive recruitment process knowledge to include needs assessment, job description development, physical and mental job qualification standards testing, FLSA testing, and interviewing techniques

 

  • Knowledge of state, federal, and OFCCP regulations

 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.

 

  • Current knowledge of federal and state employment law

 

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills

 

  • Effective investigative, problem solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills

 

  • Ability and willingness to lead by example

 

  • Strong business acumen and the ability to understand the company’s business needs

 

 

Required Background and Experience:

 

  • BA/BS in Human Resources, Business or other relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible Human Resources generalist experience

 

  • Five years of recruiting experience with an emphasis on full cycle recruiting, preferably for a federal contractor

 

  • Experience researching, writing, and editing policies, job descriptions, and other documents

 

  • Experience conducting investigations, managing grievances, coaching, and other employee relations matters.
