Information Technology Services, a service organization that provides technology support for the University of Iowa campus, is seeking a talented software developer to design, develop, and support our Enterprise Financials web applications. The Enterprise Financials Workgroup is comprised of highly skilled and self-starting individuals. As part of this team, you will design, develop, monitor, and maintain our portfolio of Java and Oracle-based financial applications.

This position will work closely with Finance and Operations functional units to collect requirements and define solutions. We are looking for candidates who enjoy supporting a passionate customer base in a contemporary work environment. Our environment is fast paced and candidates who can move fluidly between projects and tasks are preferred. As we routinely solve complex support problems, having higher education administrative system and process knowledge are helpful. This position will be responsible for mission critical enterprise applications and data. Attention to detail, excellent critical thinking skills, and ability to multitask are required.

 Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work in conjunction with end users to gather business requirements and specification
  • Provide analysis, design, development, and production support for the Finance and Operations web application suite
  • Support Accounting and Financial Reporting, Purchasing, Grant Accounting and Treasury Operations functions
  • Provide troubleshooting of financial applications and operational system integrations

 EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working experience (typically 3-5 years’) developing large web applications with some technical direction
  • Demonstrated working knowledge with:
    • Java and J2EE core libraries, design patterns, and tools
    • Web-based frameworks such as Struts, Stripes, Spring, Play or Rails
    • REST-based Web Services frameworks (Jersey) and authentication
    • Relational databases, including SQL and the use of persistence libraries and frameworks such as Hibernate
  • Understanding of Object-oriented analysis, design and programming experience
  • Knowledge of the web application industry and technology trends
  • Excellent communication and customer relations skills

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with Higher Education and associated administrative and academic processes
  • Experience with business analysis and process improvement
  • Experience with software development best practices such as source code control, issue tracking, prototyping, testing, automated build and deployment, etc.
  • Understanding of security issues and defensive programming techniques
  • Experience with development tools, including IDEA, Jira, Confluence, and Tomcat
  • Working experience with software and database modeling
  • Strong organizational and personal project management skills
  • Exposure to a team oriented work environment
