POSITION SUMMARY: The Laborer performs tasks involving physical labor at various construction projects. This position may operate a variety of hand and power tools; clean and prepare sites, remove trash, perform light demolition, assist others with material handling, clean up rubble and debris, remove waste materials; and assist other craft workers with their duties.

This position reports to the Laborer Foreman.

QUALIFICATIONS:  This position requires any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work. The qualified candidate must have a willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.

Must have knowledge of proper and safe use of equipment, materials and supplies used in construction work. Must have basic knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions. Ability to: work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule; use equipment and tools properly and safely; understand and follow written and oral instructions; and meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.

Must be able to work day/evenings/weekends.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. Ability to lift objects equal to 100 pounds; ability to lift, carry and move materials by hand, cart, wheel barrel or hand struck; and perform strenuous physical labor under general construction conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Material handling, loading, unloading and storage
  • Assist in the performance of minor wall, ceiling, conduit, piping and floor demolition by using hand and power tools
  • Transport and place concrete; mix mortar for brick and block masons using hand and power tools
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident-reporting procedures are followed; bring problems to the attention of the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Director or HR Manager
