Survey Technician
TerraSond, a precision geospatial solutions provider, is seeking an experienced Survey Technician for its Palmer, Alaska office. The Survey Technician is responsible for conducting surveying and mapping duties under the supervision of a Project Manager or a more senior Survey Technician. He or she verifies the accuracy of collected data and prepares data, charts, plots, maps, records, documents and deliverables related to the survey. He or she may also conduct ADCP mooring configuration. The Survey Technician is also required to serve as a member of the vessel crew as needed.
The position requires residence within a reasonable commuting distance from the Palmer office and does not include relocation.
Background and Experience:
- Minimum of three years of hydrographic survey or offshore positioning experience
- BS/BA in Geomatics, Natural Sciences, Geology, GIS, Engineering, Mathematics, Oceanography, Physics, or other relevant discipline
- Strong background in mathematics to include arithmetic, algebra, and geometry
- Working knowledge of personal computers
- Ability to pass a USCG Merchant Marine physical
- Drug testing and background screen required
- Eligible and insurable to drive to regular assignments
Work is performed in a number of locations including TerraSond’s office, shop, at sea, and various field locations. Some work is performed outdoors and may take place in inclement weather. Requires occasional heavy lifting of equipment (up to 50 pounds). Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, long days, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines.
