Duties

As a Federal Security Director (FSD) for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), you will provide day-to-day direction for Federal airport security staff and operations while enhancing the experience of the traveling public. Your duties will also include:

  • Organizing and implementing crisis and incident management response plans and preparing the Federal Security Crisis Management Response Plan.
  • Providing oversight and management of passenger, baggage and air cargo security programs while also providing optimal communication to the workforce to ensure they have the information needed to effectively make decisions regarding passenger security.
  • Developing and maintaining a collaborative environment within TSA and with TSA stakeholders to effectively manage security operations.
  • Providing risk assessments, tactical planning, execution and operating management for coordinated security services while ensuring the application and promotion of the Integrated Conflict Management System (ICMS) core principles and standards into all operational plans, processes and practices.
  • Supporting security evolution and ensuring the deployment, management and oversight of people, processes and technology to improve security operations as well as having responsibility for business management functions including human resources, finance and procurement.
Supervisory Managerial Responsibilities include: strategic planning, communicating the organization’s vision and objectives; setting priorities, assigning tasks and responsibilities, monitoring and evaluating performance of organization units, managers, and employee. Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-K Pay Band (equivalent to GS-15), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the SV-J Pay Band or GS-14 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in state or local government or the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities and/or competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position which involve providing day-to-day oversight of a Federal airport and other modes of transportation security operations and staff. The one year of qualifying experience must demonstrate you performed work that is in or related to the duties of this job and demonstrates you have the ability to perform the critical competencies necessary to lead a complex operation or manage complex programs. Competencies may include, but are not limited to, the ability to:

  • Apply guidance, such as policies, directives, and/or regulations as well as an understanding of how to implement policies, directives and/or regulations to a complex program;
  • Perform critical thinking by analyzing and evaluating information gathered by observation, experience, reasoning, etc.;
  • Maintain a command presence by demonstrating confidence and credibility while interacting with various entities such as the public customers or higher level officials;
  • Analyze, evaluate and apply risk information to your decision making process;
  • Apply business and management principles involved in strategic planning and the oversight of an operating staff.
National Service Experience (i.e., Volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
