SENIOR DESIGNER (Electrical)
The Engineering Services Group, Facility Development Section, has one (1) opening for a Senior Designer (Electrical) within the Design Unit, Power Design Team at Metropolitan's Headquarters located in downtown Los Angeles, California.

JOB SUMMARY
This is a senior level electrical designer position (requiring a minimum of four years of electrical design experience) involving the preparation and checking of electrical design drawings for Capital Improvement Projects (CIP). The position requires applying working knowledge of Metropolitan electrical design and drafting standards, industry methods, and practices, and familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and construction practices.

This position is responsible for developing design drawings on assigned phases of large projects and preparing complete design drawing packages of smaller projects. The Sr. Electrical Designer will be expected to participate in field investigations and studies, prepare preliminary and final design drawings pertaining to a variety of engineering projects. The Sr. Electrical Designer will perform design and drafting using computer-aided drafting applications. Metropolitan uses primarily MicroStation 2-D and 3-D software (V8i SSIII), as well as Descartes.

JOB DUTIES
* Leads and reviews design work to ensure conformance with codes and standards.
* Leads and reviews presentation, detailing, and organization of drawings.
* Leads and performs project facility site planning.
* Leads, gathers, and compiles cost and schedule data from multiple disciplines for project budget and schedule; recommends project design resources.
* Leads and provides project quality assurance and quality control review for conformance with drawing design standards.
* Leads, prepares, and updates drawing design standards.
* Leads and conducts research, data collection, and presents technical data and findings.
* Acts as Project Manager; plans, coordinates, and conducts projects with area of responsibility including monitoring scope, quality, budget and schedule.
* Performs other related Designer duties as required.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education development test (GED) and six years of increasingly responsible, relevant experience; or five years of relevant experience and twelve quarter units or eight semester units from an accredited college, university, or vocational school.

Required Knowledge of: Design drawing practices, procedures, and standards in area of responsibility; mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry; facility design and layout; applicable codes and regulations (comprehensive understanding of NEC); construction and fabrication practices; estimating; quality assurance and quality control practices; proficient in computer aided drafting software (MicroStation V8i SSIII); project management; and current office technology and equipment.

Required Skills and Abilities to: Perform calculations; research; manage projects; analyze and interpret data; organize and prioritize work; use computer aided drafting software (including 3-D application); prepare and deliver presentations; prepare technical reports and correspondence; use independent judgment and exercise discretion; problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; lead and train; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.
