JOB DESCRIPTION

The position performs activities related to electrical meters such as reading and reporting irregularities, connecting, disconnecting and exchanging meters in accordance with established practices. This position reports to the Technical Services Manager, and works with metering services personnel and other departments as directed. The Cooperative supports a positive work environment that emphasizes the Company’s current mission statement and core values.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for all Meter Reading functions including but not limited to:

  • Read meters on assigned routes with accuracy; record digits to note consumption of electricity during period since the last reading; attain accuracy in reading meters and recording readings.
  • Observe and report all possible situations that may involve meter tampering, power diversions and other irregularities to the Technical Services Manager.
  • Report any hazardous electrical conditions that may endanger the memeber, general public, Trico employees or Trico lines and electric equipment.
  • Take appropriate action regarding stopped or damaged meters.

Responsible for meter audits, meter exchange functions, and field accuracy tests of meters including but not limited to:

  • ACC test sampling program.
  • New AMI programs.
  • Routine job orders.
  • Collection of electronic data by using meter reading handhelds.

Ability to complete certification program for meter change-outs to assist in the installation, maintenance and operation of single-phase AMI meter exchanges in a competent and safe          

Ability to learn to read the Cooperative's system maps, diagrams and specification charts.

Assist in the following duties as directly assigned by the supervisor:

  • Sort job orders by area and coordinate completed job orders.
  • Sort health status meters and issue clear bits and if necessary, schedule the change out of meters for the section.
  • Arrange access for meters that were not read.
  • Perform pre-bill reading for efficient collection of readings from the pre-bill with readings from AMI system and manually collected readings from the field and ensures that all readings from the field are returned on time to billing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidate must have the following minimum qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Arizona State Drivers’ License.
  • General understanding of the National Electric Code.
  • Must copy, compare, check numbers legibly with speed and accuracy.
  • Capable of attaining accuracy in reading meters and recording readings as defined not to exceed one misread per 1,000 actual physical meter reads.
  • Able to interact professionally with employees and members and work with minimal supervision. Irregular hours and overtime may be required at times.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The work is performed predominantly outdoors and requires the ability to endure different types of weather conditions, poor road conditions, and dealing with a variety of animals. Tools and equipment used in this classification will include a voltmeter, protective equipment, hand-held meter reading devices, and other small hand tools. 

The job requires the ability to drive and walk for long periods of time, and to lift and move equipment and meters from warehouse, to truck, to job site.  The use of stairs occasionally is required.  The job involves 50% sitting or standing; 70% walking, and 30% squatting, bending, pushing/pulling, and 20% couching, kneeling, and reaching. 

The individual must be able to reach over his or her head 50% of the time, consistently move on his or her feet 60% of the time.  Frequently the position requires lifting from floor, waist-level, or overhead materials weighing from 10 to 50 pounds.  The position requires extensive fine finger dexterity, including simple and firm grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive movements, including typing, with both hands.
