Position Description:

The Transportation Technician will execute technical work assignments on transportation engineering projects individually or as part of a project team.

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Review subdivision and land development plans for compliance with applicable municipal ordinances and transportation requirements
  • Perform capital improvement transportation designs
  • Prepare State regulatory permit applications- Traffic Signal Permitting and Highway Occupancy Permitting
  • Prepare bid plans and specifications
  • Compose letters, memoranda, reports, applications and studies
  • Perform site investigations and field reconnaissance
  • Project coordination with Transportation staff, clients, attorneys and residents
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in Transportation, Highway, Traffic Engineering field
  • Experience in traffic signal and signal system designs, transportation impact studies, traffic engineering studies and ADA designs
  • Experience in municipal engineering reviews and infrastructure design
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local regulatory and permitting requirements
  • Experience in PennDOT ePermitting for Highway Occupancy Permitting process
  • Previous experience in assisting on working with municipalities, including public and/or private sector design projects
  • Software experience includes: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Synchro, and HCM
  • Experience with PennDOT ECMS document uploading and maneuvering within ECMS

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Organized and detailed oriented with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills including the ability to compose letters and complex reports and to orally communicate technical information to others in public presentations
  • Experience in municipal engineering plan reviews and infrastructure design
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team
  • Demonstrates the highest degree of ethical behavior and candor
  • Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions
  • General knowledge of traffic engineering and underground utilities
  • Possess experience with Microsoft Suite, AutoCAD (preferably Civil 3D), Synchro, and HCM
  • Experience with PennDOT ECMS document uploading/maneuvering and ePermitting process
  • Comfortable performing in an environment that requires independent evaluation, judgment and decision making
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to compose letters, outlines, memoranda, and complex reports and to orally communicate technical information to others
  • Must possess a passion for excellence and a drive for continued development and growthEssential Position Requirements:
