PRINCIPAL PUBLIC AFFAIRS REPRESENTATIVE (EDUCATION / TECHNOLOGY)
JOB SUMMARY
The Principal Public Affairs Representative will bring a special focus to developing outreach projects and leveraging technology in water education. The position will be responsible for coordinating educational projects, developing educational materials and building online educational resources. The Principal Public Affairs Representative will foster collaboration with the educational community: training and presenting to educators and students.

JOB DUTIES
1. Plans and implements projects for developing relationships with and communicating Metropolitan priorities to key constituencies within the Metropolitan service area and beyond including the education community, agriculture, civic leaders, and Metropolitan employees.

2. Keeps and interprets data, records on performance against business objectives, and provides reports as needed.

3. Oversees development or procurement of materials and services necessary to carry out assigned projects within guidelines established by Metropolitan policy and management.

4. Keeps informed of Metropolitan programs, projects, issues, and events; and determines how to present Metropolitan programs, projects, issues, and events to internal and external audiences including highly technical subjects.

5. Performs other related duties as required.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in communication, education, marketing, business administration, public relations, or a related field and eight years of increasingly responsible experience, of which two years must have been at the Senior Public Affairs Representative level. Senior Public Affairs Representative level duties include:

* Plans, designs, and coordinates logistics, site planning, staffing, materials, exhibits, and displays for meetings, conventions, and other community events for media, education, or community relation programs. May act as liaison and public spokesperson for Metropolitan.
  o Promotes the use of Metropolitan's educational materials through outreach.
* Leads and conducts teacher in-service training and workshops, classroom presentations, assembly programs, and field trips focusing on Metropolitan initiatives and curricula for education programs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Required Skills and Abilities to: Speak and write clearly and concisely; communicate complex issues effectively with diverse groups; interpret policies and procedures; respond to requests and inquiries from the general public; and use business applications such as word processing.

Licenses
* Valid California Class C Driver License or equivalent in your state of residency that allows you to drive in the course of your employment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
* Teaching certificate or experience with teaching to education standards.
* Project management ability
* Technology - Experience building, designing and implementing effective interactive online curriculum, supporting technology-enhanced teaching using, Coursera, Moodle, Blackboard, MOOC, Tablets, Smart Boards, and/or social media for education.
* Awareness of current water issues at all levels of government
* Understanding of California water history; knowledge of Southern California water agencies including Metropolitan's member agencies; and active involvement in relevant community, business, or other associations.

Work Environment: Primarily an indoor work environment typical of an office setting. The work environment may include some exposure to outside elements. May travel to various sites requiring overnight stay.
