  • Managing the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s $27 million Juvenile Justice Pay for Success Initiative, the largest financial investment in a PFS contract in the country.
  • Acting as the government advisor and transaction coordinator, Third Sector has also helped launch the nation’s first county-level PFS project in Cuyahoga County, OH (Cleveland).
  • Receiving a three-year, $1.9 million grant award as part of the Social Innovation Fund’s (SIF) inaugural PFS grant program. The goal of Third Sector’s SIF Award is to accelerate the development of PFS projects across multiple levels of government nationwide and to share lessons learned with a broad community of stakeholders to increase adoption of evidence-based policymaking.
  • Providing advisory services for governments and service providers pursuing PFS projects, including Santa Clara County, CA, Salt Lake County, UT, and Los Angeles County, CA and developing PFS projects in Illinois and New York.

Third Sector’s work has been published or cited in the Economist, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and employees have presented at a variety of conferences including the White House, Harvard Business School, and international events like SOCAP.

Position Overview:

As Third Sector Capital Partners, Inc. continues to grow, the organization is seeking an entrepreneurial and flexible finance and operations professional to ensure that systems and processes are robust enough to support the complex work of the organization.  Reporting to the Co-President & General Counsel, the Manager of Finance and Operations will manage the finance function as well as HR administration. In addition, s/he will execute on projects related to IT and facilities and will supervise the San Francisco-based Finance and Operations Coordinator. S/he will be adept at financial management and analysis and bring an innovative, problem-solving approach to refining existing systems and implementing new processes to advance the organization’s mission.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and continuously improve financial, grant and funds accounting processes for a $4M budget, which includes diverse revenue streams and compliance across geographically-dispersed programs
  • Oversee compliance with grants from the federal government and foundations
  • Partner with an external accounting firm to develop and execute on financial strategies
  • Oversee the implementation of HR policies and processes such as hiring, benefits, policies and performance reviews as well as systems for supporting the creation of a robust talent pipeline
  • Ensure a clean annual audit process and tax return preparation
  • In partnership with senior leadership, execute on annual and quarterly budgeting and forecasting process
  • Lead the accurate and timely preparation, analysis and presentation of monthly and annual financial reports for both internal and donor reporting (actual vs. budget; P&L; accrual; Board reports)
  • Ensure effective utilization of technology and facilities to support finance, accounting, and human resources, including QuickBooks and Salesforce
  • Supervise the Finance and Operations Coordinator and collaborate with an external accounting firm
  • Operate seamlessly between strategic projects and day-to-day administrative tasks, providing strong customer service across the organization

 

Qualifications:

Third Sector is seeking an entrepreneurial professional with the highest ethical standards who is comfortable in a fast-paced, hard-working environment and is excited to take on increased responsibilities as part of a growing team. We are seeking candidates who have: 

  • Professional experience in nonprofit financial management in a growing nonprofit organization with diverse revenue streams, ideally including fee-for-service funding as well as restricted and unrestricted funds, and executing on multiple, geographically-dispersed projects
  • Proven experience coordinating audit activities and managing reports, maintaining the general ledger, and building and overseeing both budgeting and payroll
  • Experience managing and building effective systems to ensure compliance with federal grant funds
  • Familiarity with managing HR policies and systems required; exposure to facilities and IT management preferred
  • A successful track record of using problem-solving skills to improve existing, and build out new, financial and operational systems in order to increase an organization’s impact
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated success in a supervisory role, ideally including remote management
  • Working knowledge of financial/accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks) required and HR/business development software (Salesforce) preferred
  • Flexible and adaptive work style, with the ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, mission- and feedback-driven environment
  • Bachelor’s degree required
