The Judith R. Frank Business Communication Center and the UI Department of Accounting seek an assistant-director-level coordinator (PCC2) to manage the Department of Accounting writing program, a position considered essential for the effective long-term operation of the University. Primary duties are to deliver writing program resources to students admitted to the departmental undergraduate major or to its graduate programs; manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting writing program, and participate in the administration of policies, programs, and procedures related to the departmental writing program. Events and activities include but are not limited to: designing writing rubrics and grading written assignments; administering and benchmarking departmental writing assessments; creating content for the departmental writing program website; hiring, training, and supervising part-time writing consultants; meeting one-on-one with students and developing programming for writing tutorial sessions. The position is a 100% time position. Responsibilities will require some time outside the 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. work day.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Reasonable experience (1 to 3 years) in higher education writing or communication centers or in higher education tutoring of English language writing and grammar/usage OR reasonable experience (1 to 3 years) writing English language business documents in a business environment
  • Extensive knowledge of English language composition, including grammar and usage, and working experience of the conventions of business writing
  • Working knowledge of and proficiency with MS Office computer applications and with APA style
  • Working knowledge of and proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and blogging software)
  • Expert written communication skills and extensive oral communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in English, communications studies or a related field preferred
  • Working experience in ESL programming or with ESL populations
  • Working experience with online tutoring or with online instruction
  • Basic experience with web-based scheduling and record-keeping software
  • Working experience in post-secondary classroom teaching
  • Extensive experience in professional (non-academic) business communication
  • Working experience and demonstrated success in managing a team in a workplace or academic environment
