This Electronics Technician position is located in the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)- Television Branch, Employee Communications Division, within the Office of Strategic Communication and Public Affairs (SPCA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If selected for this position, you will be serving as the Broadcast Video Engineer. You will be performing repair of audio and video broadcast equipment at the board level (A/V, routers, digital switchers, intercom matrix, graphic equipment, digital distribution and conversion); component level (Video Tape Recorders (VTRs), cameras, audio consoles and processing, Radio Frequency (RF) and fiber transmissions, 2-way radios, microphones, monitors, Cable Television (CATV) system); and broadcast equipment (cameras, VTRs, audio mixers, lighting gear, monitors, 2-way radios). Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating on technology design/redesign, installation, and integration projects with complex, leading-edge technology in an increasingly digital environment, including broadcast equipment, servers, networks (e.g., routers, switchers), and other equipment.
  • Documenting quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials, and project work. Ensuring sufficient inventory of parts and technology supplies, working with administration and finance/accounting personnel to order and track inventory. Creating SOP and manuals for use of equipment.
  • Performing on-site user support for critical/on-air newsroom equipment via direct contact with the client; backing up or assisting BIT Production Support Specialists with non-critical news systems and desktop PCs, including installation, problem correction, removal/replacement, or other tasks as necessary to ensure continuation of customer work productivity and on-air transmission.
  • Conducting reviews of the outputs of electronic, hardware, and software design systems, proposed engineering changes, and special design studies.
  • Monitoring and adjusting broadcast systems to met accepted broadcast standards using diagnostic tools such as SDI scopes, audio/data analyzers, and other equipment.

To qualify for the SV-I Pay Band (equivalent to GS-13), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the SV-H Pay Band or GS-12 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position, and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes performing repair of audio and video broadcast equipment at the board level (i.e., A/V routers, digital switchers, intercom matrix, graphic equipment, etc,) and component levels (i.e., VTRs, cameras, audio consoles & processing, RF & fiber transmission, 2-way radios, microphones, monitors, etc.,); AND applying electronic design processes, scientific or engineering concepts, theories, principles, practices and methods to resolve engineering and technical issues regarding digital content systems.

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

NOTE: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour work week. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.

•Qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors and are proficient in some, but not all of the requirements of the job.
