                                                           FACILITY SERVICES TEAM MANAGER

 

Metropolitan Water District has one (1) opening for a Team Manager I in the Desert Region Unit supervising the Facility Services Team. This position is located at the Gene Pumping Facility located in Parker Dam, California (on the California/Arizona border).

 

Under administrative direction of the Unit, Assistant Unit and/or Section Manager, this position will supervise the Facility Services Team that includes administrative staff, cooks, lodging assistants and the recurrent program.    This Facility Services Team Manager will oversee the procurement, preparation, and serving of food and beverages for three field kitchen facilities to ensure the cost-efficient and safe preparation of nutritious meals and supervise lodging operations for one guest lodge and three dormitories at Metropolitan field locations for the Board Inspection Trips and Metropolitan employees and guests. 

This Team Manager will: supervise all activities related to food preparation, including supervision of staff and the development and monitoring of budgets to ensure the cost-effective provision of meals in accordance with Metropolitan policies and practices and applicable governmental health, safety, and nutrition regulations; supervise the preparation of menus, identify food and related non-food product needs, and the ordering of necessary food and related products to ensure cost-effective purchases, adequate inventory control and efficient food preparation process; plan, develop, and monitor the food budget to ensure the most efficient use of resources, adherence to established guidelines and accurate and timely reporting, accounting, tracking, and control budgetary information; supervise staff assigned to maintain guest lodge, dormitories, and kitchens in order to maintain efficient operations; maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts, including representatives of local health and sanitation departments and other regulatory agencies and vendors to represent Metropolitan's interests in collaborative and informed manner; and ensure the safety of others by implementing safety training and promptly implement safety recommendations that result from new regulations, inspections, event reviews, or from in hours Occupation Safety and Health experts.

Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday

Job Duties Include:

1. Supervises and evaluates the work of subordinate staff in accordance with Metropolitan's policies and procedure.

2. Effectively recommends personnel actions related to recruitment and selection, grievances and disciplinary policies and procedures, performance, leaves of absence, work schedules and assignments.

3. Performs analytical work for a team in a specialized field and coordinates teamwork activity to achieve effective results.

4. Makes budget, personnel and related resource requirement recommendations for the area supervised based upon anticipated workload and production capability of the team.

5. Gathers, analyzes and compiles data to prepare narrative and statistical reports on team activities.

6. Provides input into the development and modification of policies, methods and procedures.

7. Provides explanation of policies and procedures and working structure of the team to external and internal customers; drafts detailed responses about regulations, procedures, activities and status of projects.

8. Represents the team and Metropolitan at various meetings.

9. Exercises responsibility and accountability for the technical soundness of the work that is supervised.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: REQUIREMENTS

Each Team Manager position will have specialized requirements for knowledge in the functional areas within the team assigned to manage.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.) and 8 years of increasingly responsible experience, of which 3 years must have been in project management, supervisory or lead position; OR

An associate's degree from an accredited college or technical school and 6 years of increasingly responsible experience, of which 3 years must have been a project management, supervisory or lead position; OR

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 4 years of increasingly responsible experience, of which 3 years must have been in a project management, supervisory or lead position.

Knowledge of:

* Principles and practices of supervisory methods. 

* Principles of administrative and project management, including budgeting techniques, office procedures, and reporting.

* Tools of management, such as development, cost analysis, policies and procedures, training and development, and records management and reports writing.

* Employee policies and procedures.

* Equal opportunity practices.

* Food and lodging oversight and administration.

* Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations

Skill and ability to:

* Supervise, lead, mentor, coach, motivate, evaluate and reward employees.

* Determine training needs and provide orientation and training for subordinate staff.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

* Driver's license equivalent to a California Class C.

Physical Demands: Light

Work Environment: Primarily an indoor work environment typical of an office setting. The work environment may include some exposure to outside elements. May travel to various sites requiring overnight stay.
