RESEARCH PURVIEW

Ph D Research Work

Title : “Development of in vitro protocol for micropropagation on Stevia rebaudiana and Glycyrrhiza
glabra.”
Duration : Since Sep’05
Supervisor : Dr. Sarita Arya, Scientist-E, Tissue Culture Discipline, Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.
Co-Supervisor : Dr. I. D. Arya, Scientist-F & Incharge, Tissue Culture Discipline, Forest Research Institute,
Dehradun.
Place : Tissue Culture Discipline, Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.

Description
 In view of growing demands of sweetening products to control diabetes, zero calories sweetening product to check obesity: Stevia is the best alternative.
 Both the plants have tremendous medicinal value. Good antiviral and antibacterial agents as well.
 Glycyrrhiza glabra is an endangered plant species, Plant Tissue Culture is the only answer for its conservation.
 Plant Tissue Culture is the best alternative of high commercial usage of Stevia rebaudiana.

Micropropagation protocol for both the plant species has been developed successfully. Three regeneration pathways i.e. axillary bud culture, in vitro seed germination & organogenesis from leaf explant were developed for Stevia rebaudiana and two regeneration pathways i.e. axillary bud culture & organogenesis from leaf explant were developed for Glycyrrhiza glabra
