PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Worked in a Project as Junior and Senior Research Fellow in Dept of Geology & Geophysics, IIT Kharagpur, India entitled “Natural Radioactivity and Radiation Dosimetry in the High Background Radiation Area along the Southern Coast of Orissa, India” from September 2005-2006, and from September 2006 to January 2009 respectively. This work is in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Mumbai and Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Radiochemistry Division, Kolkata.

FIELD EXPERIENCE

Ph.D field work in beach placer deposits of southern coastal Orissa, India includes collection of beach sand samples and rock samples and radiometric mapping of the area by measuring the radiation dose in the air using radiation survey meter and Geiger Muller counter.

Dissertation field work (M.Sc) on “Characterization of petrographic attribute of calc silicate of Delhi Supergroup; A case study from Sendra Complex & Barotiya Sequence of Rajasthan, India” includes lithological and structural mapping.

Structural and lithological mapping of different geological areas including Dehradun (Uttaranchal), Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), Ramtek (Nagpur, Maharashtra) and Ghatshila (Jharkhand), India, during B.Sc and M. Sc field works.

SCIENTIFIC SKILLS

Geological field work in hard-rock terrains and beach areas.
Structural and lithological mapping of different geological areas.
Mineralogical and Petrographic study of rocks under microscope.
X-ray diffraction studies of minerals.
Experiences of rock and sediment sampling for radioactive measurements.
Exposures in handling the instruments like:
Sophisticated Optical Microscopes, Frantz isodynamic separator, GM Counter, Gamma ray surveymeter, Gamma ray Spectrometer, Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors, Thermoluminescence Dosimeter, RAD-7, Alphaguard etc.
Statistical and Graphical analysis of obtained data in field and in laboratory.
Yearly project report preparation.

TRAINING COURSES ATTENDED

Training on the use of Hyper Pure Germanium (HPGe) detector for the measurement of activity concentration of Th, U and K by using their gamma lines at Radiochemistry Division, Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Kolkata, India.

An intensive training in various radioactive measurement techniques for radiation dosimetric studies using Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTD), Thermoluminescence Dosimeter (TLD), Lucas Scintillation Cell (LSC) at Environmental Assessment Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, India.
