Administrative assistant / Data Entry specialist Resume
Cheryl
US-District of Columbia
Graduating JD/MA Student
To Whom it May Concern:
I am a third year law student at the Washington College of Law seeking an entry-level attorney position to begin in fall, 2009 after I sit for the Maryland bar in July. I hope to pursue a career promoting human rights and seeking nonviolent resolutions to conflicts. I am looking for a position in international law, human rights law (including civil rights), family law and children’s rights advocacy, immigration or alternative dispute resolution.
I chose to study law as a way of helping others and am seeking a position that will allow me to reach those who need the assistance I can provide because of my legal training. My cross cultural training and experience allows me to relate to the individuals seeking my aid in a compassionate and supportive manner. During the Peace Corps, I fostered cross-cultural skills in order to successfully teach English, organize training seminars, and create an English Resource Center. My ability to adapt in diverse cultures and to determine how to achieve the goals of the community will enhance my ability to provide assistance to communities both within the U.S. and abroad.
My academic studies have focused on human rights and international law, including topics such as dispute resolution, public interest, international criminal law, trade, and U.S. foreign policy. As part of my JD/MA program, I participated in several skills institutes on human rights monitoring, cross cultural communication, conflict resolution, peace building, mediation, and international management, and attended two study abroad experiences. These studies have prepared me to address conflicts from both a legal and a socio-political perspective in order to develop effective and sustainable plans of action.
I have developed my legal research and writing skills through my classes and internships. As a Dean’s Fellow, I researched the state created danger doctrine as applied to drug-informant deportation cases. I am currently researching the extraterritorial applicability of international human rights law and international humanitarian law for an upcoming symposium article by Professor Robert Goldman. During the summer of 2007, I researched state adoption law and parental (birth and adoptive) rights for a study published last spring by Ethica, Inc. Last summer, I provided litigation support for a plaintiff-side employment discrimination attorney. I researched and evaluated jury instructions, offer of settlements and damages; analyzed and summarized thousands of pages of depositions; and prepared trial exhibits.
I hope to find a position that will allow me to apply the skills and knowledge I have developed in order to promote social justice and empower individuals to protect their own rights. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Cheryl Levine
