The Surface Mechanics Group at United Technologies Research Center is seeking an entry level, hands-on Materials Scientist/Engineer with a background in materials engineering and materials processing. Specific experience with material processing and coating technologies is required. The candidate will be responsible for developing advanced manufacturing processes and coating processes and for evaluating properties of the materials produced relative to a wide-range of requirements depending on the application. The candidate will interface with both internal and external customers and will work in multi-disciplinary teams focused on developing advanced product concepts ranging across all of UTC business units. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential for this position. Candidate must demonstrate an ability to develop innovative solutions for engineering problems. Candidate must be able to demonstrate ability to use materials and materials processing as an enabler for new products and product designs. Candidate will be expected to be a strong contributor to the UTRC innovation process working a wide-range of materials applications.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: A Masters degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline. A PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline is preferred. 
 
A minimum of 5 years of industrial or academic experience with Masters or 2 years of industrial or academic experience with Ph.D.

The candidate should be highly motivated and possess strong organizational, teamwork, communication and process discipline skills. The candidate should also be willing to expand his/her technical knowledge in new areas that are aligned with the Surface Mechanics group's mission to provide an integrated capability for optimizing surfaces and interfaces using fundamental understanding of both manufacturing processes and surface functionality.
