United Technologies Corporation, a Fortune top 50 company is a dynamic global corporation operating at the leading edge of commercial and military aviation, aerospace systems, climate control, elevator design, security and fire protection.
United Technologies Research Center, a division of United Technologies Corporation, is seeking a mechanical or materials engineer with a strong background in advanced manufacturing processes to work in its Physical Sciences Department. Experience with advanced manufacturing processes, including additive manufacturing is required. The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to develop and demonstrate new and or improved advanced manufacturing processes. The candidate must demonstrate a deep knowledge of the process physics that control the processes and be able to use this understanding to guide the process development and demonstrations.

The individual should also have experience using various modeling codes as well as having the ability to model in a multi-physics environment. The individual will work in multi-discipline project teams to create, analyze, validate and transfer software tools and processes into the manufacturing environment within UTC's business units. The successful candidate will work with a team to validate and deploy manufacturing processes and process models that improve quality, time and cost. The individual should have expertise using a variety of codes, and modeling platforms and techniques including: process modeling and control software, optimization, heat transfer prediction and material behavior constitutive modeling. The work will include development of mechanistic models representing various conversion processes for metal, ceramic, composite and polymeric materials. These models will provide the fundamental simulation of critical response variables required for optimizing the processing variables relative to performance, quality, weight and cost.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: PhD in Mechanical or Materials Engineering with 3+ years of experience in manufacturing process modeling, including metal removal processes or additive manufacturing. Development of manufacturing processes and process simulation codes, including work with metal removal processes, material forming and machining control. Expertise with the variety of traditional (milling, drilling, grinding, turning) and non-traditional machining (EDM/ECM, laser assist, abrasive water jet) and additive manufacturing processes is desired. Additional qualifications include: understanding of process dynamics, material microstructure influence on the process, and the use of process instrumentation. The candidate must have the ability to design and execute validation experiments in business units and/or vendor manufacturing sites.
