Web Application Developer for ITS-Administrative Information Systems
Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University of Iowa, a service organization that provides technology support for the University of Iowa campus, is seeking enthusiastic and talented software developers to design, develop, and support our Universal Electronic Workflow system. We are building a new campus workflow service and portal to unify our existing systems, provide a consistent interface, and make workflow services more widely available and easier to use for both campus developers and users.
You will be part of a team building the core service layer of our new workflow service. You will design and build web services that expose workflow functionality to the workflow portal and departmental clients. You will work closely with the workflow portal team to make sure the user interface works seamlessly with the services.
The position will be filled as an Application Development and Support, Level II (PC83, pay grade 9), or Level III (PC84, pay grade 11) based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. To be eligible for the Level II position, candidate will have considerable experience in developing enterprise-scale web applications (typically 3-5 years). To be eligible for the Level III position, candidate will have extensive experience in developing enterprise-scale web applications with limited technical direction (typically 5-7 years).
Education requirement:
· A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience may also serve to meet this minimum requirement.
Basic requirements:
· Proven track record of delivering successful web applications through the full development lifecycle
· Experience with J2EE core libraries, design patterns, and tools.
· Experiences with web based frameworks such as Struts, Stripes, or Spring
· Relational database experience, including SQL and the use of persistence libraries and frameworks such as Hibernate.
· Object oriented analysis, design and programming experience.
· Knowledge of the web application industry and technology trends.
· Excellent communication and customer relations skills.
Desirable qualifications:
· Experience with software development best practices such as source code control, issue tracking, prototyping, testing, etc…
· Experience with development tools, including IDEA, Jira, Confluence, and Tomcat.
· Experience with Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) or Web Services.
· Understanding of security issues and defensive programming techniques.
· Experience with software and database modeling.
· Strong organizational and project management skills.
· Exposure to a team oriented work environment.
