Job Description:
Job responsibilities
- Providing front-line technical support to students, faculty and staff at The University of Iowa, using the Help Desk call tracking system to effectively track customer requests and problems.
- Maintaining and facilitating the use of the Knowledge Management System (creating, updating and reviewing content, working to improve the system and promote its use).
- Staying current on all relevant operating systems, applications, technologies and ITS services.
- Participating in on-going projects such as the development of new services, improving processes and procedures and rolling out new technologies within the Help Desk.
- Some 24x7 on-call support is required.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving diversity in the workforce.
This position requires:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience may meet this minimum requirement.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with technical and non-technical staff.
- Experience providing front-line technical support.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify root causes.
- A great customer service attitude.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent team work skills and the ability to work with others.
- Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and various Internet technologies.
- Strong technical knowledge of e-mail technologies and applications.
- Experience with Mac OS X.
Desired qualifications include:
- Experience with call tracking systems.
- Experience with knowledge management systems.
- Technical knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory.
- Technical knowledge of antivirus software and virus-related issues.
- Technical knowledge of spyware and anti-spyware products.
- Ability to lead projects and small teams.
