OVERVIEW
The Director of Policy Initiatives, Women and Population, will oversee implementation of the Women and Population program’s new strategic effort to increase U.S funding for international family planning/reproductive health (FP/RH). This role will entail overseeing development and implementation of a collaborative strategic plan developed in consultation with various stakeholders in the FP/RH field. The Director of Policy Initiatives will oversee United Nations Foundation’s (UNF) strategic grant-making to U.S. advocacy organizations to support implementation of the strategic plan. This effort will help test the viability of a larger and more far-reaching initiative to build broad-based public support for the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) consensus and Millennium Development Goals (MDG) encompassing universal access to reproductive health, beginning with the U.S. constituency.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE
The Director of Policy Initiatives reports to the Executive Director, Women and Population. The Director of Policy Initiatives is an integral member of the Women and Population Team who also works closely with UNF’s Public Affairs, Better World Campaign, and Partnership Development staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DELIVERABLES
· Coordinate all facets of the UN Foundation’s strategic plan to increase U.S. support for FP/RH assistance. This includes:
· Contribute to the Women and Population team’s efforts to encourage all nations to fulfill their ICPD and MDG obligations in service of achieving the global goal of universal access for reproductive health.
· Represent UNF in relevant NGO, donor, and UN communities.
· Other duties as assigned.
SELECTION CRITERIA
· Advanced degree in public policy, public health, international affairs, law, or other relevant field;
· At least 7-10 years relevant professional experience;
· Politically astute; understanding of federal and international politics and process; advocacy experience in Washington, DC highly desirable, particularly related to foreign assistance, with experience in home districts also a plus;
· Background in one or more of the following preferred: reproductive and sexual health and rights, global health issues, international development, women’s human rights, or population and the environment;
· Excellent research, writing, editing, facilitation, and public speaking skills;
· Self-starter; ability to drive projects from inception to implementation;
· Very strong skills working in coalition and teams -- collaborator, diplomat; problem solver; relationship-builder; strong inter-personal skills; sense of humor; attention to detail; and ability to work under pressure.

Salary commensurate with experience. Actual salary will depend on qualifications and anticipated contribution to the Foundation.
UNF pays 100% of medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance premiums for its employees and 75% of medical and vision for employees' dependents.
In addition, UNF provides 20 days of paid vacation per year, 12 paid holidays, three personal days per year, an immediately vested 150% matching 403(b) contribution up to a limit of six-percent of employee pay, Metro Pass benefits, and flexible spending accounts for health and dependent care.
