Financial Industry Extremely Lucrative for Women

Women professionals are in demand in the financial services business! Package product wholesaling is one lucrative area of the financial services industry where women are underrepresented. Many asset managers (mutual fund companies), retirement plan providers, hedge funds, and insurance companies will hire a "wholesaler" to represent and sell their products throughout a specific territory of the country. Leading mutual fund companies like OppenheimerFunds, Dreyfus, John Hancock Funds, Pacific Life, SunAmerica, and Invesco all use wholesalers to sell their money management services. It's not uncommon for a mutual fund company to have as many as one hundred wholesalers working throughout various parts of the country.

How lucrative can a wholesaling career be?  The top wholesaler in the country earned $5,000,000.00 last year! Ann Hughes is now the CEO of The Female Affect. Before founding her own consulting firm Ann worked as both a financial services wholesaler and sales manager. Ann points out how the demand for women wholesalers is strong. “In my role as National Sales Manager, only six of the sixty-five wholesalers were women. I would have loved to hire more women but they just don't apply. I want women to understand that wholesaling can provide a lucrative career with the flexibility many women want to raise a family." Ann told us she knows several successful women wholesalers. We asked her why women make such successful wholesalers. She replied; "wholesaling is about fostering relationships first and foremost, which makes it such a great fit for women. We are networkers and relationship builders by nature."
